Paris canal network
Unique in France, the city of Paris is owner and maintains a 130-km river network of navigable waterways that pass through five departments (Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis, Seine et-Marne, Oise et Aisne) and two administrative regions (Ile de France and Picardie).
The network consists of the following navigable waterways:
- The Ourcq canal flows over 97 km from Mareuil-sur-Ourcq (Oise department) to Paris (19th arrondissement).
- The Saint Martin canal is entirely within Paris, stretching over 4.5 km (19th, 10th, 11th, 4th and 12th arrondissements).
- The Saint Denis canal flows from Paris (19th arrondissement) to Saint Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis department) over 6.6 km.
- The little Clignon canal flows from Montigny-l’Allier (Aisne) 2 km to Neufchelles (Oise).
- The Ourcq river is channeled over 10 km upstream of Mareuil-sur-Ourcq (Oise).
- Secondary channeled rivers (la Collinance, la Gergogne,
la Thérouanne, la Beuvronne). For more information, contact:
